Buying with confidence
First perfume buying tips for people who dislike sweet scents
When buying with a low-sweetness preference, check the later scent as carefully as the opening. A fresh first impression can lead into a warmer direction, and a note list does not reveal the exact balance you will perceive.
A HUME Fragrance buying guide

Use a clear exclusion example
Mention a fragrance or smell you find too syrupy, fruity or dessert-like. This gives more information than asking for no sweetness at all. You may find that some warm styles are enjoyable even when others are not.
Do not filter by one ingredient alone
Avoid assuming that every vanilla or tonka listing will be too sweet, or that every citrus listing will be dry. These are clues for selection, not a guaranteed description of the whole fragrance.
Resolve sweetness before the bottle
Wear the strongest candidate again and record its later character. If buying without smelling, understand that descriptions leave uncertainty. Samples are especially useful when sweetness is a firm deal-breaker.
Try this before you buy
Add a later-wear sweetness note to each test rather than recording only the opening.
