Getting started
How to describe the perfume I like
Describe a perfume using familiar smells, texture, sweetness and presence. You do not need technical vocabulary: phrases such as bright citrus, dry wood or soft flowers give a clearer brief than simply saying luxurious.
A HUME Fragrance buying guide

Describe the smell first
Name what it reminds you of, even if you cannot identify individual notes. Lemon peel, a flower shop, warm spice or freshly cut wood are useful starting points. A memory is a description of your impression, not proof of an ingredient.
Add contrast and texture
Say whether it feels sweet or dry, airy or dense, fresh or warm. Explain what you do not enjoy as well. A request for woody without dessert sweetness gives more direction than a request for a masculine perfume.
Separate the scent from its presence
Mention whether you prefer a close-to-you fragrance or something more noticeable. Explain where you intend to wear it. This helps distinguish liking a smell from wanting a particular strength in your daily routine.
Try this before you buy
Finish: I like smells similar to ____. I prefer them ____ rather than ____. I will wear this mainly for ____.
