Performance basics
Projection vs longevity perfume
Projection describes how noticeable a perfume is around the wearer; longevity describes how long it remains perceptible. A perfume can become quieter while remaining present up close, so a longer wear does not automatically mean a stronger surrounding scent.
A HUME Fragrance buying guide

Use separate observations
Record presence around you and the later close-range impression independently. Combining them into one strong-versus-weak score can hide what changed.
Compare with context
Application, room conditions and the observer influence a comparison. Equal spray counts from different atomizers are not necessarily equal quantities.
Decide which suits the setting
A quieter later phase may be appropriate for some occasions. Choose the balance you enjoy rather than assuming the highest projection is always better.
At a glance
| Term | Useful meaning | Separate question |
|---|---|---|

| Longevity | How long scent stays perceptible | How far it is noticed |
| Sillage | Trail associated with movement | A fixed surrounding radius |
Try this before you buy
Create separate notes for surrounding presence and later detectability during the same trial.
