Understanding perfume
What is a powdery perfume
Powdery describes a soft, cosmetic or dry-textured impression that can recall face powder or similar associations. It is not the presence of loose powder in the bottle and does not define one particular ingredient.

Describe the association
Some people perceive powder as delicate and smooth; others associate it with familiar cosmetics. Your reference may differ from someone else's, so describe what the word means to you.
Read the surrounding notes
Iris, violet or musky descriptions can be useful clues, but none guarantees the same powdery result. The whole composition determines how the impression is perceived.
Avoid automatic assumptions
Powdery does not mean old-fashioned, feminine or weak by definition. Compare the actual scent and its presence rather than accepting those stereotypes as product facts.
Try this before you buy
For a candidate, record whether the powder-like texture feels soft, dry, cosmetic or unlike those references.
