Understanding perfume
Why does perfume smell different after an hour
A perfume can smell different later because the balance of what you perceive changes as it develops, and your awareness of it can change too. An hour is an observation point, not a universal boundary between fixed note stages.

Expect overlapping impressions
The opening, heart and base are a descriptive model. Materials and effects overlap rather than waiting for a timer, so development may be gradual instead of a clear switch.
Record the same trial
Note the product, application and setting, then return to it later. Avoid adding another perfume during the test if you want to understand the original fragrance's character.
Do not diagnose from one change
A different later impression alone does not prove a defect, poor quality or a counterfeit. Compare with reliable product information and another ordinary trial before drawing conclusions.
Try this before you buy
Write an opening and later description from the same wear, including what became more or less noticeable.
